Located on its own island, where the Nile's beauty stretches as far as the eye can see, the Benben Hotel in Aswan is a boutique gem that effortlessly weaves modern comforts with traditional Egyptian charm. This enchanting hotel offers a truly unique experience, from its Nubian-inspired architecture to its serene ambiance and breathtaking panoramic views of the Nile and the Temple of Philae.

Following our unforgettable sailing trip on the Dahabiya, we decided to treat ourselves to a day of relaxation and luxury, which led us to book a one-night stay at the Benben Hotel. After a few weeks, I had the time to finalise my BenBen By Dhara Hotels review:

A Nubian-Inspired Oasis

The moment you set foot in the Benben Hotel, you'll be struck by its Nubian-inspired architecture and open, fresh layout. The entire property exudes an air of intimacy, making it an ideal choice for those seeking a tranquil retreat or a place to unwind after a day of exploring Aswan's treasures.

Rooms with a View

The rooms at Benben Hotel in Aswan offer an enchanting blend of eco-friendliness and elegance. As you step into these well-appointed spaces, you're greeted by an abundance of natural light that bathes the room, creating an airy and inviting atmosphere. The high wood ceilings not only add a touch of sophistication but also provide a sense of spaciousness. One of the most captivating features of these rooms is the private terrace that allows you to bask in the refreshing breeze and take in the breathtaking Nile view. With a size of 41 square meters, these rooms are designed to accommodate up to 2 adults and feature an extra-large double bed, ensuring a comfortable and restful stay. Moreover, the in-terrace Jacuzzi is a delightful addition, offering a unique opportunity to unwind while gazing at the picturesque Nile River.

What sets these rooms apart is their eco-conscious design. Constructed entirely from granite without the use of cement, they exemplify the hotel's commitment to sustainability. The cork floors, known for their beauty and comfort, have been carefully selected to enhance the overall ambiance. You can look forward to dipping into the open-air private Jacuzzi on your terrace, which not only pampers you with its luxurious feel but also provides panoramic views of the Nile River, making it the perfect spot to relax at any time of the day. These rooms promise a serene escape where the worries of the world melt away, leaving you to focus on the present moment and enjoy the best night's sleep you've ever had. Benben Hotel's rooms offer an oasis of tranquility and a genuine connection with the majestic surroundings of Aswan.

Dining Delights

At the Benben Hotel, your culinary journey is as exceptional as your surroundings. The hotel's restaurants offer a delightful fusion of Egyptian and international cuisine, expertly crafted by talented chefs. You'll find a delectable array of dishes made from locally sourced ingredients, ensuring that your taste buds are in for a treat. The charming lounge area is perfect for savoring refreshing drinks, providing a splendid backdrop for relaxed conversations.

A Note on Amenities and prices

As a smaller boutique hotel, the Benben Hotel Aswan doesn't offer a swimming pool. However, given the breathtaking natural beauty surrounding the property and the opportunity for outdoor Jacuzzis, you'll find that a pool is hardly missed.

Also no fitness center available (for fitness freaks like me :)).

While our stay at the Benben Hotel in Aswan was truly delightful, we couldn't help but notice a discrepancy in the pricing of meals and services when compared to what we encountered in Cairo and Luxor. The average meal cost of around 30 euros (800 EGP) was notably higher, and considering our previous experiences, it felt like a significant increase. Furthermore, the charges for services appeared to be inflated. For instance, arranging a taxi to the airport, which typically cost us an average of 6 to 10 euros (200 EGP to 400 EGP) for similar distances, came with a hefty price tag of 40 euros (1300 EGP).

We also desired to visit the nearby Philae Temple, a mere 10-minute boat ride away, only to be surprised by a 30 USD (1000 EGP) charge for booking the boat. While we appreciate the uniqueness of the hotel's island location, these discrepancies left us with a sense of dissatisfaction and financial surprise.

The Verdict: An Oasis on the Nile

The Benben Hotel in Aswan is nothing short of a hidden gem. From the moment you arrive, you'll be greeted by the warm hospitality and breathtaking beauty that Egypt is famous for. The hotel's Nubian-inspired architecture, stunning Nile views, and delectable cuisine create an unforgettable experience. Whether you're seeking a tranquil retreat or a base for exploring Aswan's wonders, the Benben Hotel offers a truly special and memorable stay. This is the kind of place where you can get lost in thought as the Nile landscape unfolds before you, making it a cherished memory for a lifetime.
